Guangzhou has followed President Xi’s instructions and mobilized its top talents and companies to join the fight against COVID-19 outbreak.Those actions are testaments to their social responsibility.

Haizhu District: Expert Teams Mobilized to Aid Hubei in Fighting COVID-19 and Implement Guangdong’s “Three Screening Criteria”

At present, everybody in China is concerned about what is happening in Hubei Province. As the situation has entered a critical stage, people from all walks of life have shown solidarity and are making every effort to win the battle. Wuhan Kingmed (a subsidiary of Guangzhou Kingmed, a company based in Haizhu District) is gathering resources to undertake the preliminary screening. According to the official data provided by the Hubei COVID-19 Prevention and Control Command Centre on January 27, Kingmed has been included in the list of companies offering Novel Coronavirus nucleic acid test service. It will be responsible for the preliminary screening for cities including Tianmen, Jingmen, Jingzhou, Xiaogan’s Xiaonan District, and other places. To accomplish the task, Kingmed mobilized a 12-person PCR test team comprising backbone staff of its central and southern region team and laboratory experts from the headquarters. The team arrived at Wuhan on January 29 to support the fight against the epidemic and can detect more than one thousand samples per day. 

In Guangzhou, the laboratory at Kingmed HQ is also optimizing the testing process and cooperating with Guangdong Province to carry out the “three screening criteria” to reduce the risk of virus spreading in the community. As one of the major players, Kingmed has mobilized emergency resources. It has trained more than 200 inspectors with PCR employment certificates and inspection technician titles, deployed 17 testing equipment, and optimized testing methods to increase the efficiency five-fold.  More than 10,000 samples can be tested in a day. At the same time, Kingmed has urgently mobilized more than 300 logistics staff to ensure its service network can cover all cities and counties in Guangdong.

Huangpu District: Leverage on Technology to Fight Disease at the Front Line   

The vast number of experts in Huangpu District are determined to implement President Xi’s instructions, and leverage on the advantages of "Huangpu Technology" in the fight against COVID-19. They worked hard at the forefront, showing strong patriotism and dedication. Da An Gene Co, Wondfo iCubate, Huayin Bio, Hecin Scientific, Vision Medicals, and Thermo Fisher have successively completed the development of novel coronavirus detection kits.

Guangdong Hecin Scientific Co., Ltd. has completed the pre-development of the novel coronavirus detection kit at the beginning of the year. Then the company's founder Dr. Xiaofeng Li returned to the United States during the Spring Festival to take a vacation. Yet with the outbreak and the disclosure of the viral gene sequence, the company immediately assembled two R & D teams to develop the test kit for 24 hours. With each batch of new data, Dr. Li Xiaofeng gave guidance from the United States. Fearing that he would not be contacted for more than ten hours during his flight back to China, Dr. Li literally ate and lived in his study, and found short breaks to rest.

Zhong Jianhua and Zhang Wenying, the couple who co-founded Guangzhou Deposon Medical Devices Co., Ltd., are both experts of the Guangzhou Hundred Talents Program. They donated their blue diamond sterilizers twice to support the Guangdong healthcare professionals in Wuhan, and notable results have been achieved. The couple is planning to make their third donation of 50 sterilizers.

Zengcheng District: Talents Playing a Big Role in the Fight

Nanfang Hospital’s Zengcheng affiliate is one of the designated hospitals for COVID-19 patients in Zengcheng District. Qu Dongbin, a top talent and vice president of the hospital, has been fighting on the front line. In addition, the top talents and their companies in the district have donated to provide material support. As of February 3, 2020, the top talents and their companies in the district have donated 1.84 million yuan.
