Guangzhou Economic & Technological Development District (GETDD) was established in 1984 under the approval of the State Council. It is one of the national economic and technological development districts firstly established in China. It shares office premises with Guangzhou Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, Guangzhou Export Processing Zone, Guangzhou Bonded Area and Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (collectively known as “Guangzhou Development District”), and is under an integrated administration system with the other four. Over the past 30 more years, Guangzhou Development District has been among the best national development districts in terms of comprehensive strength. It is an important economic growth pole, a key S&T innovation engine and an innovation-driven development core of Guangzhou. 

According to the latest evaluation result released by the Ministry of Commerce in 2018 on national economic and technological development district, Guangzhou Development District, among 219 counterparts, ranked No. 2 in comprehensive strength and No.1 in S&T innovation and tax revenue, hence one of the top ten world-class Hi-tech parks in China. In 2018, the District won one first prize and three second prizes of the National S&T Award. It is home to over 20,000 technological companies, over 2,000 Hi-tech companies, 91 incubators and 3,830 incubated technological companies. The number of high-level talents in the District is among the highest in Guangdong, with 730 high-level talents included in talent recruitment programs at national, provincial, municipal and district levels.
